Walks that end somewhere high.
Field notes from day walks and the occasional night in a hut: the route, the weather, how long it really took, and what was waiting at the top.
Latest from the journal
- First snow, short day
Ten centimetres overnight changed a familiar loop into a new one. We turned back at the fixed chain and don't regret it.
- The pass in October
Late season on the old mule track: frost on the switchbacks, the hut already shuttered, and the whole valley to ourselves.
- A lake above the clouds
An inversion day: we climbed out of the fog at 1,600 metres and walked the last hour in sunshine above a white sea.
Where we walk
Mostly within two hours' drive of home, in every season except the muddiest weeks of April. The trails page lists every route written up here, with the numbers.
